Teaser Post
Summerset is coming along nicely. Some minor tweaks here and there and of course adding new creatures from the newest member of the Summerset Team, Vicn, the master creature maker.

Nano Update
Thought I would share what I have been up to
without giving any big spoilers away. Been struggling with a quest arch. not
because of CK issues or lack of inspiration. My struggles were entirely due to
testing something that goes against my moral fibers. In the creation of
Summerset there are many quests so far, about 54, which is good. Some people like to have evil characters, some
like to have good and others like to remain neutral. Some will carefully examine
the quest while others will go from point a to b to c for the feeling of
completion. I have built a quest that, based on the actions of the character
will lead down a dark path. This goes against who I am and how I play, but I
wanted the option open for those players that like playing evil. Rewarded for
examining quest objectives and making a choice that may not be obvious to many.
The ball should get rolling soon on the rest of the quests. The main quest is
intended to be 2 acts with about 8 parts in total. I have a number of other
side quests I would like to implement as well. When I have the last quest done
I will be starting recruitment for voice talent.

Quest Optimization
Got a good many of the quests done and got a bit ahead of myself too, as they were all working so well decided to just blast through them. Tested them when I was done a handful only to find out that some worked and some didn't. From a scripting perspective, everything was right and I couldn't figure out what I did wrong and why some worked and others did not. Tested some theories and the quests to see if I could get them working and came to a realization. The Creation Kit just doesn't like some things even though it should on a technical level. I had to rebuild many of the quests from scratch, which was annoying, but good too. I learned a lot about scripting from practice and was able to optimize the quests and the dialogue branches to be more seamless and use less scripts. There are still some things that I am not entirely happy with, but it appears the CK does not agree with me in regards to some custom dialogues. The good news is all the quests so far have been tested and work as they should. The main quest will have several parts to it. I have part 1 and 2 completed, and a few dozen side quests and hidden quests. There were some suggestions on minor tweaks for immersion and other aspects I did not consider from a developer perspective.

Quests
Have only been updating the progress report and thought it was time to have something up here progress wise too. Working on quests now. Doing some papryus scripting. Not as tough as I thought it would be. Got over a dozen quests finished at this point and making good progress. Will need to start recruiting voice actors when all the quests are done.

Navmesh knowledge
Today was a break through for navmesh.
Learned a new technique that was in front of my face the whole time that will shave days and weeks off of the tasks of navmeshing.

Homage to the Team
Still Getting Summerset to a place where I can generate LOD. Before that, A thank you to The Quartermaster for his versatility and willingness to deviate from what he knows to enhance Summerset and his skills. To QA for the breathtaking screens and play-testing. And to CaptainCreepy for his beautiful music that breaths feeling into each step. Summerset Isle would not be what it is now if not for you. Thank you :)

World Space Travel
There are a number of mods and DLC's for all tiles even that require you to travel from the base world-space to the modded or expansion landscape. In Oblivion you need to travel to the middle of the bay by Bravil, enter the door, then travel, Dragonborn you have to travel via boat and potentially pay. Moonpath to Elsweyr you are sort of stuck there till you are done, Falskaar you have to pay 500 gold there and back. I think the modders and Bethesda did a great job with the expansions, but I was never happy with the freedom to go "back home" so to speak. I have completed the method for travel between world spaces for Summerset and am quite happy with the result. My goal was to make it so I did not feel trapped or that I had to shell out money each time I wanted to visit. I will not spoil the technique though. Just an update to share that world-space travel is complete.

Progress Report Moved
Updating the Progress report and having to change the date has become annoying to me and the report ended up getting pushed down through the photo content, so I made it a page, link at the top of the blog. It should be easier for me to update it this way.

Update
Currently, I am working on the areas between towns for a bit, landscape, navmesh and places in between. I still have a few more cities, towns and settlements to build, but I am focusing more on connections between places. Reason I mention this is I won't be able to accurately update the progress report, I am still hard at work though.

Epic and Awesome
Recently I contacted Grace Darkling and Dogtown1, two very epic modders who have both offer for me to use there assets at my discretion. This is fantastic for many reasons. I am or would at least like to think skilled at modding. just recently I created my own texture for sandy beaches and coconut meshes, pretty cool, but summerset would still feel like Skyrim if everyone was wearing skyrim clothes and all the creatures were wolves and trolls. Thanks to these two fine people summerset will be twice as awesome as I planned.
